Last night I was up until after 1AM finishing a weld cap order that had to be ready when the Baron left for work about four hours later. While sewing, I was watching my newest Netflix addiction, The Fosters, and I reached a point where my eyes started to tingle and moisten, my throat clenched, and my nostrils flared. I knew what was coming, as I've been through this before...
...the ugly cry.
I'm a reader, and as a reader, I live many lives. Once a month or so, I end up snuggled up to a book that makes me fall in love, only to rip my heart out and stomp on it.
Repeatedly.
I still sniffle like an idiot when I see this...
Or remember this?
Here's another one I cried through, only I listened to the audiobook, which meant I was able to keep going when I'd otherwise have to stop because the words were too blurry to see.
And you know what? I do the exact same thing the next month. It's torture, I know.
In fact, I'm currently looking for one of these ugly cry books, which is why I chose this particular topic right now.
Do you have a recommendation for me? What books have you ugly cried through? And, a very important question, what brand of tissue do you prefer?

Do you want ants? Because this is how you get ants.
Oh, I love a good ugly cry! It's so cleansing :-) I used to cry so much more often when reading books or watching movies. For some reason, these days it's mostly just a few silent tears. It might sound like I'm trying to plug my stuff, but the truth is that my most recent and most ugly cry was over my latest novel Shattered Angel. I even broke down in the middle of my kickboxing class (I had to leave the mat to sob alone in the bathroom) a few months after I published it, still caught up in the emotions! The most recent movie I had an ugly cry over was Inside Out. Yes, I admit it. I cried more than once in that movie... Since there were kids all around, I did my best to keep it under control. The movie that is guaranteed to make me cry every time I watch it is Sense and Sensibility. Sigh.
I'm not afraid to ask --- What???
It's just a thing.
You know what makes me ugly cry every time? A.I.: Artificial Intelligence. The Spielberg movie from 2001 (or something). That scene where the mom leaves. SO. MUCH. SAD.
I ugly cried over The Scorpio Races, The Fault in Our Stars, and the last Harry Potter.
Perfect timing - we were just talking about this, Kim! The Shadow Behind the Stars by Rebecca Hahn fits this category perfectly. Total tearjerker. It's still in ARC but will be released in Sept.
All the Bright Places made me ugly cry for the last 20% (while my husband sat on the couch watching The Kingsman, which was weird background to say the least.). Also, I'll Give You the Sun made me cry b/c it was so damn good.
Dudes don't cry, but if we did we would read White Fang. That part where he throws the rocks at his wolf is just horrible. Or maybe the Bridge to Terabithia...
