Glad to provide inspiration-- though I do now feel totally one-upped.

I think my fear of tornadoes stems from a childhood incident when my family car literally ran out of gas on the railroad tracks in the middle of a tornado warning-- sirens going off and everything. If that wouldn't traumatize a kid I don't know what would?

Surprisingly, Carrie, we've only had like one tornado scare since I moved to West Lafayette four years ago... Thanks goodness.

Apparently, Kimberly, Lilapsophobia is the official word for tornado-phobia. It's an "abnormal fear of tornadoes or hurricanes." Lilapsophobia is considered the more severe type of astraphobia, which is a fear of thunder and lightning.Check and check...

Great post, Steve! It's so vivid with the powder room, felix and your buddy's death wish. Thanks for sharing! My 5yo asked if tornadoes hit where we live and I said, "No. Look at those mountains." But a funnel cloud was spotted last year. *shudder.*Kimberly G. My sophomore year at Purdue was my closest call. I was out and could tell that the weather was only going to get worse. I hurried back to the dorm and then sat in my window to watch. The young tree in front of my window was nearly bent in half from the wind. Suddenly, it stood straight up and went still. My reaction: "Oh crap." The next second the alarms were going off (which were on top of our dorm and we were on the top floor - read VERY loud). The tornado touched down a few miles away.

And Jonathan - with where you live you should be used to tornadoes by now!! Does your fear mean you won't go and see Sharknado 2? ;-)Carrie Beckorthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04324065022504846662noreply@blogger.com
