I figured if anyone would have an in with the local writing community it would be them. I got the name of the instructor, talked to her a little, and decided to sign up.

The workshop only cost $260 USD, but it felt like a really big commitment for me. Now I feel like I have to give my writing all the time I can to make it worthwhile. Really motivating. What I really love about it is that it's five months long. My next goal is going to try to find something that goes from June through the new year so that I have a writing thing all year long. Hope you find something soon. You're right, you shouldn't have to cross the pond every time you want to rub elbows with your fellow word hermits.Jonathan Schrammhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13790604374800284914noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1020653850161663700.post-12748839808554183932016-02-26T10:54:56.623-05:002016-02-26T10:54:56.623-05:00Totally, Kimberly. It's not like getting an MFA or anything, but it puts you in the "I'm a serious writer" mindset and for me, coming back after a while off, is exactly what I need. Hope you get the opportunity to do a conference or a workshop soon. The only reason I was able to fit this in is because it meets twice a month from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Baby goes to bed at 7:00pm, so I only leave my wife alone for a half hour or so, every other week!Jonathan Schrammhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13790604374800284914noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1020653850161663700.post-63044091844739753932016-02-26T10:50:52.358-05:002016-02-26T10:50:52.358-05:00Thanks, Carrie! Besides the whole "flying across the ocean" thing, there's the cost! Much better to just drive down the street. How did you find this opportunity to start with?Brenda St John Brownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01995664320021950254noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1020653850161663700.post-479392554374924552016-02-25T18:46:36.387-05:002016-02-25T18:46:36.387-05:00I find opportunities like this make me feel much m...I find opportunities like this make me feel much more a part of the writing community than publishing. I can't wait to do conferences and workshops, but with the kids being so little, it's not the right time. Soon though.Kimberly G.
